Monday, March 13, 2023 – New York, NY – Last night, guests joined Citymeals on Wheels Board Co-President Chef Daniel Boulud and celebrated guest chefs for the landmark 25th Annual Sunday Supper at Restaurant DANIEL. The annual event raised $1 million, 100% of which will be used to prepare and deliver more than 125,000 meals to New York City’s homebound elderly.
Mayor Eric Adams attended, thanking Citymeals supporters for helping nourish homebound elderly New Yorkers. He noted that by supporting our older neighbors: “We’re depositing into the social bank of life.”
Guest chefs for the evening included Aaron Bludorn (Bludorn, Houston), Esther Ha (Momofuku Ko, New York City) and Travis Swikard (Callie, San Diego)—all culinary leaders who began their careers under the mentorship of Chef Boulud. Joining them was French Chef Eric Canino (La Voile, Ramatuelle in Saint Tropez), rounding out this esteemed group of chefs who worked together to create an unforgettable evening in support of the city’s most vulnerable population.
The 25th anniversary of Sunday Supper coincided with the 30th anniversary of the opening of the two Michelin-starred Restaurant DANIEL, which has been the event’s home since its conception.
“For the past 25 years, Sunday Supper has been a treasured annual event for the entire team at Restaurant DANIEL. We’re proud to set aside this special evening to rally our chef friends, showcase our creativity and create an unforgettable night in support of Citymeals,” said Chef Daniel Boulud. “This year was a special homecoming for some of our beloved colleagues from the past. Many thanks to our guest chefs, sponsors, friends, and supporters for helping nourish our homebound elderly neighbors.”
During the cocktail hour, canapés included: Duck & Foie Gras Terrine Rhubarb, Brioche Feuitee; a Frittata with Spinach and Blue Cheese; Pomponette Citron Caviar; Trout Tartare with Salmon Roe and Sesame Leaf; Carre de Boeuf Horseradish; and White Asparagus Comte Emulsion with Sauternes.
The lavish three-course dinner included: Chef Esther Ha’s Scallop Crudo with Chestnut, Black Truffle Puree, Brown Butter-Hazelnut Sauce; Chef Aaron Bludorn’s Phyllo-Wrapped Ora King Salmon with Spinach, Baby Artichoke and Greek Yogurt Sabayon and Chef Travis Swikard’s Salmon Mi-Cuit with Salsify, Panisse, Spring Vegetable Caponata; and Chef Eric Canino’s Poulet Bresse and Homard Roasted Chicken with Lobster and Mascarpone Raviolis. Chef Shaun Velez of Restaurant DANIEL prepared a duo of mini-desserts, including a Rhubarb Coffee Semifreddo, Cocchi Americano and Sweet Orange and an Andoa Peruvian Dark Chocolate, Pomelo Urfa and Petit Fours.
Fine wines accompanied each course, chosen by Head Sommelier at Restaurant DANIEL Chris Dooley.
The evening honored longtime supporters Nancy and Jon Bauer and Citymeals Board Member John Shapiro for their unwavering support of Citymeals’ mission. Event co-chairs for the 25th Annual Sunday Supper were Marika and Neil Bender, Ellen Grimes and Board Co-President Robert S. Grimes, and Board Member Lisa Rosenblum.

For 25 years, Chef Boulud has hosted this intimate dinner, inviting notable culinary talents to join him in the kitchen to prepare and serve a sumptuous and inventive multi-course menu. Over the years, Sunday Supper at Restaurant DANIEL has raised more than $14 million to fund home-delivered meals for vulnerable, older New Yorkers who can no longer shop or cook for themselves.
Since its founding in 1981, Citymeals has become woven into the fabric of the city and delivered over 67 million weekend, holiday and emergency meals. Today, Citymeals is the largest nonprofit meals on wheels program in the country.
