How does the volunteer application process work?
All prospective volunteers must submit an application, including two references. After applying, volunteers are required to attend an online orientation prior to beginning their volunteer work to ensure they understand our mission and their responsibilities.
How long is my volunteer commitment?
One-time volunteer opportunities are available through our meal delivery, handmade card, kitchen helper and office helper programs. Our Social Calls program requires a six-month commitment.
Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
We welcome volunteers of all ages. If a person under the age of 18 would like to deliver meals, he or she must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate in Social Calls.
I work during the week. When can I volunteer?
We offer some meal packing and delivery opportunities on weekends and holidays. Social Calls volunteers can fit a 30-minute weekly call into their personal schedule.
My schedule is erratic. Do I need to commit to volunteering at the same time each week?
You do not have to volunteer at the same time each week. However, if you sign up for a shift it is important to report to attend and arrive on time as our community partners rely on our volunteers to ensure operations run smoothly
Can my group volunteer?
Members of community groups, corporate teams and schools are welcome to volunteer on a regular or one-time basis. Please fill out our volunteer form for corporate and community groups.
Do you complete background checks?
To protect our meal recipients, volunteers given certain assignments may be asked to submit to a criminal background check. When it is required, volunteers who do not agree to the background check may be refused.
Must I go through a physical examination?
All volunteers should be in good health and capable of performing their assigned duties. Physical examinations are not required for meal deliveries, but volunteers should take into consideration the vulnerability of the elderly when signing up to volunteer.
Can I complete court-ordered community service with Citymeals?
We cannot accept court mandated community service. If you have any criminal charges pending or convictions, you are not eligible to volunteer with Citymeals.
